Jackson Browne has consistently released incredible music since releasing his debut single, “Doctor My Eyes,” in 1972. Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, folk rock icons graced the Billboard charts with countless staples, many of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. His exemplary works have also earned numerous accolades. Browne’s career-spanning hits and studio albums have earned him seven Grammy nominations. Last year, he received his latest Grammy nod when his latest album, Downhill from Everywhere, received a nomination for Best Americana Album.

Browne made his phenomenal breakthrough in 1972 upon releasing his self-titled debut album, The effort, released through Asylum Records, performed moderately well on the Billboard 200, peaking at number 53. The album, which spawned the massive hit “Doctor My Eyes” and “Rock Me on the Water,” sold over a million copies in the U.S., earning Browne his first platinum certification. After his incredible debut, the prolific songwriter released new music almost every year during the ‘70s. In 1976, he dropped The Pretender. The album featured the hit single “Here Come Those Tears Again,” the title track was Browne’s first record to enter Billboard 200’s Top 5. The Pretender also earned triple platinum status in the U.S. after selling over three million copies.

The following year, Browne released the highest-selling album of his career. Running on Empty, which debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, sold over seven million copies. The album also received two Grammy nods – for Album of the Year and Pop Male Vocal Performace for the title track.

Browne started the ‘80s with a bang with his sixth studio album, Hold Out. The album became his highest-charting effort to date when it topped the Billboard 200. Selling over two million copies in the U.S., the album is Browne’s only album to reach number 1.
